Why we built Red Suburbs

Red Suburbs started as a tool I built for myself. I wanted clear, reliable crime data to help my family decide where to live. That’s still the reason it exists: to give everyday Australians easy access to high-quality crime data, so they can make informed decisions and find safe places to call home.

We made both of these changes because they bring the site closer to that purpose.

Why we removed ads

Ads often clashed with our ethics and values, and they made the site worse to use. Checking every ad that appears isn’t a job we want to do. It’s simpler and more honest to turn ads off completely.

What this means for you: a cleaner, faster and distraction-free Red Suburbs.

Why we removed the free profile limit

We’ll be upfront about this one. The cap on free profile views was an artificial limit. We put it there to make more people aware of Red Suburbs Pro. The trouble is that it also got in the way of the people we set out to help, including the many students who use our data in their studies. Students were never going to buy a Pro plan, and the cap stopped them doing their research. The more we thought about it, the less it sat right with us.

What this means for you: you can browse as many basic suburb profiles as you like, for free.

What about Red Suburbs Pro?

Red Suburbs Pro is still available for professionals who need deeper data and advanced features. We’d rather earn those subscriptions by offering real value than by restricting access for everyone else.

Thank you

Thanks to everyone who has used Red Suburbs, shared it, and sent us feedback. We hope these changes make it more useful to you, whether you’re looking for a new home, researching an assignment, or just curious about your neighbourhood.
